Corporate Social Responsibility Mission of tthe GPW Group


The Warsaw Stock Exchange and the companies of the GPW Group pursue their business operations in compliance with the highest business standards and taking into account social, ethical and environmental factors.


The mission of the GPW Group is to support economic growth and build an investment culture by ensuring the highest standards and safety of trading in a professional and responsible process. The Group’s CSR strategy provides for the implementation of the mission and for building of the Group’s value while respecting the interests of the environment of the Group’s companies based on dialogue and co-operation with all stakeholder groups.

GPW and the sustainable development goals

In pursuit of its mission, the GPW Group follows the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) published in “Transforming Our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. Approved by all 193 Member States of the United Nations in 2015, the Agenda defines 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets for the world by 2030. The GPW Group actively supports five selected Sustainable Development Goals which are relevant to the activity of GPW and its subsidiaries in view of the role that they play on the Polish financial and commodity markets and their stakeholder groups.

United Nations Global Compact

In April 2020, GPW joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), an international organisation established in 2000 by the initiative of the UN Secretary General, UNGC brings together companies which develop strategies and actions according to the ten universal principles concerning human rights, labour standards, environmental protection, anti-corruption, and initiatives aiming to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

As a member of the UN Global Compact, GPW is a part of the biggest global platform of institutional and corporate leaders of sustainable development comprised of more than 11 thousand companies in 156 countries around the world representing nearly all business sectors.

Sustainable Stock Exchanges

GPW is a member of the Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) since 2013. SSE is a UN initiative of 93 global exchanges which follow the principles of responsible and sustainable business and promote the highest ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) standards through measures addressed to market participants. On the back of the global trend, GPW has for years promoted the highest ESG standards among listed companies by publishing socially responsible company indices: RESPECT Index and WIG-ESG.

The Exchange discontinued the calculation and publication of the RESPECT Index as of 1 January 2020.

GPW publishes its new index, WIG-ESG, since September 2019. WIG-ESG includes stocks participating in WIG20 and mWIG40, i.e., the biggest companies listed on GPW. With the publication of WIG-ESG, GPW offers an index that has a strong investment objective. GPW published both WIG-ESG and the RESPECT index from September to December 2019. WIG-ESG remains as the index published by GPW Benchmark since 1 January 2020.

GPW Group's CSR Strategy

GPW continued to pursue its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) strategy in 2019. The GPW Group’s CSR strategy is based on four main pillars:

  • education,
  • market relations and dialogue,
  • responsible human resources policy,
  • protection of the natural environment.
